About Uddeshya:Shikshya

Uddeshya Shikshya

We all know how important education is. 'Education is the light of life', 'education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world': these are some wise words we have been hearing since childhood. We sometimes don't realize how lucky we were to have gone to school and actually heard those wonderful words from our teachers. What percent of the world have had this opportunity? According to UNESCO (September 7, 2001), 1 billion adults in the world are illiterate, and 98% of all world's non-literates live in developing countries. We all know, Nepal is a developing country as well, and the data shows it well about where we lie. We might already know this information, but we might not realize and feel it every single day.
The data show well how developing countries like Nepal lag very behind in education. Already in a very bad situation, the recent earthquake that hit Nepal gave a hard blow to the education sector as well. Almost all schools have been either blown down or been heavily damaged by the earthquake in the hard hit areas. After evaluating and analysing these damaging effects on the rural areas of Nepal, we came up with a project plan that would soothe these devastating effects and cover the damages on the education sector. Nuwakot, being a major target of the earthquake, killing eight teachers and heavily damaging almost all schools, we made Nuwakot our major target for the execution of this project idea. The project is entitled ‘Uddeshya:Shikshya’.
